Jane's list of miscreants who need shooting was quite inspirational for me, although the notion of actually shooting some of these malefactors gives me pause. Since the first entry on my list involves traffic infractions, I'm having visions of road rage. I wouldn't want to be accused of encouraging someone to whip out a gun and shoot some old lady who's driving too slow in the left lane. So let's just say that the folks on my list deserve a serious pummeling with a firm pillow. Or total social ostracism. Whichever you prefer.
1. Drivers who zip into the left lane, bypassing a long line of stopped traffic in the right lane, then expect somebody to let them back in. Why should they get to bypass the rest of us? Because they're better than we are?
2. Shoppers who try to sneak 12 items through the express line, when the sign clearly says "10 items or less."
3. People who sit beside you on airplanes and monopolize the armrest.
4. Parents at sporting events who yell at their kids (or the coach or the umpire or other people's kids) when the game's not going the way they think it should.
Basically, my list includes people whose behavior reflects an attitude of "I'm special, and you're not." This list could extend to encompass people who shoplift or cheat on their income taxes or commit insurance fraud or steal cable TV, because those infractions penalize the rest of us who foot the bill for the things they steal. But I left them off the list, because those things are illegal, and society has already decided how they should be punished. My list is for those things that everybody just knows are wrong, even though they're not against the law.
What do you think should go on this list?
