Hello, Rhys here.
I've been traveling around so much during the past month that I have no idea what day of the week it is. So it came as a shock a few minutes ago to find out that I'm supposed to be blogging today! I got back from Portland, OR yesterday and then had to do a radio interview with a pyschologist who tried to analyse all kinds of deep meanings into my books.
The title of my blog today refers to something I've been thinking about lately: I became a writer because I like to write. But now it seems that half my life as a writer involves anything but writing. I have to make speeches, go on book tours, donate to charities, and promote my books in one hundred and one different ways. And most of these ways involve technical savvy.
My point is that by nature I am not technical. I am not interested in how things work, as long as they do. But I now send out a regular e-newsletter to my fans. I blog. I guest blog. Last year I even made a video trailer for my new book. Now I've got to weigh up the pros an cons of a blog book tour. I back up my files online, via Mozyhome. And frankly, I don't have much of a clue what I'm doing. When I set Mozyhome into action it says that it is "reticulating splines." What on God's green earth is that? I wouldn't recognize a spline if I saw one. I have no idea how one would reticulate it. Actually I rather resent being thrust into the techno world, when all i want to do is write books. Although I have to confess that I probably couldn't write a book using pen and paper any longer. I wouldn't be able to read my writing!
looking forward to almost two months at home and writing in peace. Yeah.
