Self-publishing is a hot topic in the writing world these days, but is hardly a new event. A few writers who took this route included Lewis Carroll, mark Twain, Zane Grey, Edgar Allan Pose, Walt Whitman, and Anais Nin. Not all grew rich on these efforts. In fact, Mark Twain's publishing business went bankrupt according to a Boston Globe article.
