Ann Parker here, bloggin' every other Saturday for the LadyKillers, and on the road nearly as often, so it seems.
One week, Cleveland for the Bouchercon convention. Two weeks later, Albuquerque for Women Writing the West conference. But hey, guess what?? No cooking and/or house chores involved!! Sounds like a vacation to me!
I'll try to post some tales from the road in Albuquerque on Facebook, as they happen. But for now, please enjoy this musical interlude, apropos of this week's topic.
"On the Road Again" with Willie Nelson at the Grand Ole Opry!
"Truckin'" with the Grateful Dead. The quality of the video isn't great, but it's worth watching for the vintage '70s hairstyles and clothes. And OMG, Jerry Garcia looks soooo young!
Now, a little Leonard Cohen, because I love this rendition of "Suzanne." ;-)
Wait... no women?? That's not right! So, here's Dolly Parton with "But You Know I Love You."
... And the Dixie Chicks with "The Long Way Around."
If you want ideas of others rock 'n roll and/or country songs that are "tales from the road," check out this old Yahoo! answers post in which someone asked for songs written about being on the road.
And while you're rockin' out (or not), be sure to tell us what your favorite song from the road is. Yes, please share, because music is meant to be heard! :-)

Thanks for a great wake-up, Ann! Willie Nelson does it for me every time -- saw him concert in Concord CA a while back and now have my Sirius car radio tuned to Willie's Roadhouse.

Classical music to calm while driving through big cities! Wow, it can get wild. Simon & Garfunkel are good road companions, too. I've recently started listening to Fleetwood Mac especially more recent Lindsey Buckingham stuff. For country, I like anything by Rosanne Cash and Rodney Crowell. Have a good and fun trip, you crazy conference woman!

Love these videos! As for music on the road, I'd have a laundry list, all of which dates me. But then I am historical---Johnny Cash, anything by Simon/Garfunkel, kd lang, Eagles, Rolling Stones (when they were no more seniors than I am), and, for a change of pace, original instrument music, etcetcetc.

Ah, so nicee to hear and see the beautiful and harmonious Dixie Chicks. Saw them in San Jose after the big brouhaha and the audience was in their pockets. Road music is a good question, but my answer is too varied to mean much - I'm omniverous.

Back home at last and off the road for a few days... Glad you all enjoyed the musical intermission! :-) Love seeing other performers listed, also faves of mine: Fleetwood Mac, Simon and Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Eagles, Rolling Stones... !! And I discovered the Dixie Chicks after the, as you put it Susan, brouhaha... and they gained another fan in me! I can't imagine I was the only one to tune in on them once they became notorious. ;-)
