Hah! I should be so lucky. It’s January 1, 2013, and I am deep into the box, or rather, boxes. The movers won’t come for another two or three weeks but I am already living in canyons of piled boxes. The cats think it’s cool as long as there’s a clear path to the food dishes, but I have run out of floor space. Had I been smart, I would have done this in mid-summer, which is invariably dry in California. I could have used the patios. Had I been moving for a job like I did in a former life, the company would have paid to have people come in and do the work. In those days, I simply handed the keys to someone and hopped a plane.
I am getting zero work done on any of my writing projects, which bothers me greatly. My short-term resolution for 2013 is to set aside a couple of hours a day to sneak off to the library and work. They owe me. I have donated bags and bags of books to the book sale in the last two weeks.
How did I accumulate so many, especially after two major cullings in 2009 and 2011? Perhaps it’s time to admit I have an addiction – I am unable to leave a bookstore without at least one new book, and that’s an optimistic number. Maybe if my friends didn’t write such lively books, and didn’t recommend books and authors that amazed them, and if I didn’t read Marilyn Stasio religiously, and if the folks at Book Passage and Orinda Books and Books Inc weren’t so friendly….
The good news is I’ll have a little more space at the new house…for bookshelves.

Moving is such a great opportunity to start over, redefining space. (I can say this because I'm not in the middle of a move!) Best wishes, Susan, for a happy start to your new place!

I hear you about having way too many books. my to read stack is so high now that the only time I get to review the books in it are the times when it topples over. Good luck with the move.

More bookshelves?? Congrats on your upcoming move! I remember my childhood home with the wonderful built-in bookshelves very fondly. Do houses even come with built-in bookshelves anymore? Oh dear, mustn't go down that path.
Wishing you the best of luck with your move, Susan! :-)
