Interesting post, Ann, especially on how much journalism has changed. Ironically, I knew a State's Attorney who was a former Chicago copper, and he had a similar experience as the guy mentioned in the article. He was chasing an offender down an alley when the guy turned and shot him in the head. The bullet, a .22, pierced his scalp, but not his skull. It traveled around his head, going under the skin, and stopped at the crown. He was able to apprehend the crook and suffered no lasting physical effects. He did, however, leave the PD and went to law school. I told him he was lucky he had a hard head.
