That groceries thing is a test if the person is a predator--he's gauging how easy you'll be to attack by how many boundaries you let him cross. I learned that an much more from deBecker's "Gift of Fear." I wish every middle-schooler would read it. My favorite concept from that book was about how a well-intentioned man who happens to be alone with you in a parking garage *knows* you're likely to be scared of him and will be doing everything he can to be reassuring, including staying a safe distance.

Amen to stashing the cell phone (and headphones) while walking around!

Thanks Mysti! I am a HUGE fan of DeBecker's "Gift of Fear." I think it should be required reading for every woman.
