Great list, Ellen. I'm surprised when writing students don't think #s 11-15 are necessary because they've already read the classics!
If you're trying to publish TODAY, you have to read TODAY.

This is a real good list of Do's for any writer, especially the last five. As I always say, if you want to be a good writer, you first have to be a good reader.

I'm astonished too by people who don't read crime fiction yet they're eager to write. Then I'm astonished that people can survive without reading at all.
