Good observation about writing effective dialogue, Mar. Capturing the flavor of police jargon is essential. This "cop talk" vernacular also varies by region. No self-respecting Chicago copper would call an offender a "perp," for instance.

It seems even cars are called different things from region to region. "Cruisers" in some areas, "units", "vehicles."

Slang moves along and you have to keep up.


I keep a file called cop talk. They say the funniest things.
